Looking back at EuroBLECH 2012 in anticipation of this year's show

EuroBLECH 2014 is yet another exciting exhibition with many international exhibitors and innovative products. Get in the frame of mind and have a look at pictures and videos from EuroBLECH 2012.

An image gallery categorised by the individual halls at EuroBLECH shows the impressive spectrum of machines and manufacturing processes that are on display at the exhibition.

Alongside statements from the exhibitors, the show videos highlight important technology issues such as energy efficiency and saving resources through lightweight construction in the car manufacturing industry.

One technology video explains how the demand for materials and new materials continuously increases and the question of how different materials can be processed together; these are current challenges for the industry. For manufacturers today, it is important to be able to deliver a product that can be reproduced and further processed in the downstream processes without any problems. Trends for the future alongside lightweight construction include construction suitable to the material, no additional cost and CO² efficiency.

EuroBLECH also sets standards in laser technology. Laser has established itself over many years and will continue to develop further in the future. Today’s Hightech-Laser can cut, weld and measure in a single device. The video gives an overview in this area and reveals the trends of the future; laser will become lighter, more cost-effective, universally applicable and its efficiency will progressively increase.

Another video focuses on ‘Robots and Automation’, an important subject for the sheet metal working industry. The video shows that efficiency in production has become a key issue for global companies. Today, Robots and Automation form a single unity in the sheet metal working industry, high-tech machines are constantly developing and handling is becoming a lot simpler.

The EuroBLECH Team hope you enjoy looking at the photo and video gallery from EuroBLECH 2012!

Growth in Italy – TRUMPF expands its range by assimilating a specialist in panel bending machines

TRUMPF is continuing to grow. On November 22 an Italian company – Codatto International S.p.a., which specialises in developing and manufacturing panel bending machines, became a member of the corporate group. The purchase agreement had been signed in July of 2013; the transaction has now been completed and ownership has passed to TRUMPF.

This specialist in panel bending machines is located in the small northern Italian town of Lonigo, not far from Vicenza. It employs a staff of 40 and in the 2012 business year reported sales of about five million euros. Its panel bending machines complement the TRUMPF press brakes perfectly, offer advantages when dealing with larger panels, and leave virtually no blemishes on the material. In this technology, the panel is clamped down by the presser foot and the edge hangs over by a bit. This area is then raised to the desired angle with a swinging motion.

New Tweco® Velocity™ MIG Consumables offer quick change tip, less complexity, improved arc stability and reduced spatter

Tweco, a Victor Technologies brand, introduces its new Velocity MIG consumables platform, which is integrated into the new Tweco Fusion series of light-duty MIG guns.

The non-threaded, “drop-in” style Velocity contact tip eliminates the need to use vice-grips, welpers or other tools to remove the tip, even if the wire burns back and fuses inside the tip. The Velocity consumables design integrates the gas diffuser into the conductor tube. This creates an improved all-copper conductor path that provides better electrical conductivity and transfers heat more efficiently away from the tip. As a result, the arc becomes more stable and predictable.

In addition, Velocity consumables reduce the number of replacement parts needed. In a traditional MIG gun, the front end consists of a conductor tube, brass gas diffuser, threaded contact tip and slip on nozzle. Velocity consumables integrate the gas diffuser/contact tip seating area into the end of the conductor tube. A threaded nozzle secures the contact tip against the seating area, and it also directs and smooths shielding gas flow for excellent gas coverage of the weld puddle.

Schuler’s biggest ever servo transfer press begins operation at automotive supplier Craemer

Eleven metre above ground, fifteen meters long, eight metre wide and almost 1,000 metric tons in weight: automotive supplier Craemer of Herzebrock-Clarholz, Germany, recently launched production on the largest servo transfer press Schuler has ever built. The specialist for metal forming, plastics processing and tool making is using the line with its 8-metre long and 2.5-metre deep press bed for the manufacturing of structural parts, especially car seat shells.

The press bed needs to be that large as the parts are transported through several stations during the forming process. In the past, Craemer had to use two presses in line which were linked by a total of three automation systems. The fact that the same process is now handled by just one machine significantly enhances the overall reliability of the line – especially as parts no longer have to be passed from one press to the next.

Within the new line, parts are transported by a tri-axis high-performance transfer system supplied by Schuler Automation with an equally impressive span of over ten meters. Its extremely low vibration ensures fast and highly reliable part transfer. A prerequisite for this reliability is the integrated Active Vibration Dampening (AVD) system developed by Schuler Automation. Each of the motors delivers over 500 kW of power to generate a total press force of 25,000 kN.

The huge press is already the fifth line with ServoDirect Technology used by the Craemer Group.

Image: Thanks to Schuler’s ServoDirect Technology, the line significantly enhances the competitiveness of the automotive supplier.

More energy-efficient press hardening with Multilayer Feeder Furnace from AP&T

AP&T has introduced a new energy-efficient furnace with automation for press hardening. The new system – Multilayer Feeder Furnace – reduces heat loss by two-thirds compared to conventional roller hearth furnaces.

Multilayer Feeder Furnace, developed and manufactured by AP&T, has progressed from concept to commercial product over the course of 2013.

As opposed to a normal roller hearth furnace, Multilayer Feeder Furnace has several furnace modules stacked on top of each other. The number of modules can be adjusted based on need. The blanks are added and removed using SpeedFeeders, and stay completely motionless during the heating process. This enables a less sensitive process, making it easier to ensure a consistently high level of quality.

Since Multilayer Feeder Furnace does not require a roller conveyor, it only needs a third of the floor space required by a conventional solution. It is also primarily thanks to the compact dimensions that heat loss is so small. The furnace modules can be delivered with an airtight controlled atmosphere that allows several types of material and steel grades to be heated without the risk of scaling. The furnace is electric, which means simpler installation and that the disadvantages associated with combustion can be avoided entirely.
