Hanover Emission Zone

On 1 January 2008 the city of Hanover established an official ‘Emission Zone’ roughly defined by the express ways (Schnellwege) encircling the city centre. The Emission Zone is indicated by signs reading ‘Umwelt-Zone’. Only vehicles which meet certain minimum requirements are permitted to enter the Emission Zone. To demonstrate compliance, an official permit (disc-shaped sticker) must be displayed on every vehicle's windshield. Permit discs cost €5.40 and can be obtained from all approved vehicle testing stations, ‘AU’ approved garages and vehicle registration offices. In Hanover all the ‘Bürgerämter’ also issue discs. More detailed information can be found on the Hanover city website and in the brochure below.
